In an online event, Apple announced their latest chipset for the Mac. Dubbed the Apple M2, this chip is the successor to the M1 chip with more power-efficient features.
The Apple M2 chip comes with an 8-core processor (4 high-performance core + 4 high-efficient cores) with a 10-core GPU. On average, the M2 chip is 18% better than the M1 chip in terms of CPU performance and up to 35% for GPU. It also comes with a 16-core Neural Engine.
The new M2 chip is built on a 5nm technology process and up to 20 billion transistors. It also supports up to 100Gbps of memory bandwidth (50% more than the M1), and up to 24GB LPDDR5 of unified memory.
The Apple M2 chip will be available on the entire Mac line-up next month, starting with the newly re-designed 2022 Macbook Air and Macbook Pro.
