Meta and Twitter users won’t be the only ones that have a blue checkmark beside their names. Now, even Gmail has joined in on the hype with its own verified branded email system.

Google has announced that it will start displaying a blue checkmark next to select senders to verify their identity. According to the company, blue checkmarks will automatically appear on emails from companies that have adopted Gmail’s existing Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature.

With the blue checkmarks beside brand emails, this ensures Gmail users identify emails that are from legitimate companies versus impersonators. When you hover over the blue checkmark next to the sender’s name, you’ll also see a note saying “the sender of this email has verified” together with their domain and logo.

“Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and stop spam, and also enables senders to leverage their brand trust. This increases confidence in email sources and gives readers an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone,” says Google.

The rollout of the Gmail blue checkmarks begins on May 3, 2023. It will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. The feature will also be available to users with personal Google Accounts.

With the new verified email system, it will surely help users avoid clicking on malicious emails from impersonators and even stop spam emails.
