Airbnb has just announced that it would be permanently banning parties on all Airbnb listings worldwide, codifying a temporary restriction placed two years ago.
The temporary ban was introduced back in August 2020 as a public health measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Since then, Airbnb has reported a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports.
The ban has been well received by our Host community and we’ve received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials. As we build on this momentum, we believe the time is right to codify this policy. – Airbnb, in a statement
Under the new permanent ban, disruptive parties and events, open-invite gatherings, and party house properties would continue to be prohibited.
Moreover, Airbnb has updated its policy to remove its 16-person occupancy cap on large properties. The cap was introduced to reduce large gatherings during the height of the pandemic.
However, with large properties such as castles in Europe and villas in the Caribbean, families and larger groups can now enjoy the larger space while still complying with the rules of its ban on disruptive parties.
Guests who violate the rules of its party ban are subject to account suspension or complete removal from the Airbnb platform. Airbnb has noted that over 6,600 guests were suspended in 2021 for violating the party ban.
