Meralco said power rates are increasing by P2.15 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) this month.
n a statement, the power distributor said this is because of higher generation charges, as power costs normalized after being "artificially low" last month.
This means electricity bills will increase by the following amounts:
200 kwh P430
300 kwh P645
400 kwh P860
500 kwh P1,075
Meralco said generation charges went up this July by P2.0021 per kWh as Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) charges returned to normal levels.
It can be recalled that in June, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered the suspension of the WESM in Luzon and Visayas when major power grids in the areas are placed on red alert, then later approved the staggered payment of WESM purchases by power distributors.
"For the July billing, WESM charges were higher by P6.6370 per kWh, as charges not only normalized but also reflected the recovery of a portion of deferred WESM costs from the May supply month," Meralco explained.
Charges from independent power producers also increased by P0.4392/kWh due to higher fuel costs and lower average plant dispatch, while charges from power supply agreements rose by P0.3530 per kWh.
Meanwhile, the transmission charge went down by P0.1550/kWh. Meralco’s distribution charge has remained unchanged since August 2022.
