After PLDT’s recent award for the fastest ISP at Ookla Speedtest Award for Q1-Q2 for 2022, PLDT is now having another milestone for receiving Smart’s Ookla award as the Fastest and Best Mobile Network in the Country.

It is a rare distinction for Smart to get this award for there are only 20 mobile operators worldwide that earn the title of Best Mobile Network and the first and only mobile operator in the Philippines to get it since the Ookla Speedtest started last 2017. For a mobile operator to get this award, the operator must lead in the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage at the same time during the testing period.

Based on the latest Ookla’s Speedtest Awards for “Fastest Mobile Network” that cover Q1-Q2 of 2022, Smart has a leading Speed Score of 62.22 vs Globe which has a Speed Score of 32.48. Smart got this category because of its median download speed of 24.26Mbps and a median upload speed of 6.59Mbps.

For the Best Mobile Coverage, Smart surpasses Globe with a Coverage score of 794. “The Coverage Score captures both the number of locations in which an operator offers service (its footprint) and the quality of service in each location”, explained Ookla in its report.

“Speedtest Awards, presented by Ookla, are an elite designation reserved for the fastest and top-performing fixed broadband and mobile operators around the world. It is our pleasure to present Smart with the award for Best Mobile Network in the Philippines. This recognition is testament to their exceptional performance in H1 2022 based on Ookla’s rigorous analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest,” said Doug Suttles, CEO at Ookla.
